We have always tried our best to not only foster but promote the entrepreneurial environment in Odisha. As a part of our endeavour, we have come up with a new initiative “My Startup” in which we interact with local entrepreneurs and put forth their views and experience.
The first startup we interacted with is FlashDeal.
Below is a brief info regarding the startup and a snapshot of our interaction with the founder, Mr Nihar Ranjan Choudhary.
FlashDeal E-commerce Private Limited is start-up incorporated in January 2017. It specializes in providing the best offers in different products and services across all hyper-local platforms. Their list of services ranges from a simple Grocery List, finding the economical Beauty SPA service, having hygienic food being delivered at Home to calling for a cab service. FlashDeal’s multi-channel partnering methodology, allows the users to shop hassle-free irrespective of where they are in the city. Their focus is on tracking rapidly changing requirements of the clients and incorporating changes into their services to become a leader in providing quality for the money spent.
Nihar Ranjan Choudhary, Founder & CEO of FlashDeal, having over 20 years of corporate experience with brands like Pfizer, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, MetLife, Stel Telecom and 3i InfoTech, has been in the start-up scenario for over 3 years. Leaving behind a high paying corporate job, with the aim of creating his own company in his hometown Bhubaneswar, he came up with the idea of FlashDeal which is an aggregation of offline deals to online registered users, currently looking for Investor to scale up the Business to next level.
Their mantra is to create a bridge between online and offline shopping experience for the consumers and boost sales of the retailers who do not a have online presence. FlashDeal is Live on in Google play store with perfectly applied hyper-local features in the Mobile App. It got recognition and offer of Incubation from IIT Bhubaneswar for being an innovative idea.
The start-up was created with the vision of creating ample job opportunities and decent transparent work environment, in a still-developing state like Odisha. “The future belongs to hyper-local App as more and more people will be switching on to it due to convenience.” says the founder. “It’s into both B2B and B2C segments. The B2B team targets on getting retailers on-board and B2C team focuses on organising events to attract customers, basically the middle-class strata of the society.” The user interface of the FlashDeal mobile application is very simple and designed keeping in mind, the lower middle-class population. “It’s the unique model and unique target audience which gives us cutting edge over our competitors”, says Mr Nihar.
The major challenge now for FlashDeal is raising funds, being from a small town with no connections to the VC firms which are usually based out in the metros. However, the founder, with his team, is pretty determined to overcome this soon.
In Odisha, currently there is no other App which plays the exact role of FlashDeal, there are other similar products but they are focusing on a different market segment altogether. This would give FlashDeal a competitive boost. We hope FlashDeal achieves its aim of surpassing the revenue of Snapdeal in the coming years and make Odisha proud!
